{"id":432,"date":"2009-04-11T16:02:12","date_gmt":"2009-04-12T00:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carmelsundae.org\/?p=432"},"modified":"2009-04-11T16:02:12","modified_gmt":"2009-04-12T00:02:12","slug":"limbo-an-easter-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.carmelsundae.org\/?p=432","title":{"rendered":"Limbo&#8230; an Easter Poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Limbo<br \/>\nby Sister Mary Ada<\/p>\n<p>The ancient greyness shifted<br \/>\nSuddenly and thinned<br \/>\nLike mist upon the moors<br \/>\nBefore a wind.<br \/>\nAn old, old prophet lifted<br \/>\nA shining face and said:<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153He will be coming soon.<br \/>\nThe Son of God is dead;<br \/>\nHe died this afternoon.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>A murmurous excitement stirred<br \/>\nAll souls.<br \/>\nThey wondered if they dreamed \u00e2\u20ac\u201c<br \/>\nSave one old man who seemed<br \/>\nNot even to have heard.<\/p>\n<p>And Moses, standing,<br \/>\nHushed them all to ask<br \/>\nIf any had a welcome song prepared.<br \/>\nIf not, would David take the task?<br \/>\nAnd if they cared<br \/>\nCould not the three young children sing<br \/>\nThe Benedicite, the canticle of praise<br \/>\nThey made when God kept them from perishing<br \/>\nIn the fiery blaze?<\/p>\n<p>A breath of spring surprised them,<br \/>\nStilling Moses\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 words.<br \/>\nNo one could speak, remembering<br \/>\nThe first fresh flowers,<br \/>\nThe little singing birds.<br \/>\nStill others thought of fields new ploughed<br \/>\nOr apple trees<br \/>\nAll blossom-boughed.<br \/>\nOr some, the way a dried bed fills<br \/>\nWith water<br \/>\nLaughing down green hills.<br \/>\nThe fisherfolk dreamed of the foam<br \/>\nOn bright blue seas.<br \/>\nThe one old man who had not stirred<br \/>\nRemembered home.<\/p>\n<p>And there He was<br \/>\nSplendid as the morning sun and fair<br \/>\nAs only God is fair.<br \/>\nAnd they, confused with joy,<br \/>\nKnelt to adore<br \/>\nSeeing that He wore<br \/>\nFive crimson stars<br \/>\nHe never had before.<\/p>\n<p>No canticle at all was sung<br \/>\nNone toned a psalm, or raised a greeting song,<br \/>\nA silent man alone<br \/>\nOf all that throng<br \/>\nFound tongue \u00e2\u20ac\u201c<br \/>\nNot any other.<br \/>\nClose to His heart<br \/>\nWhen the embrace was done,<br \/>\nOld Joseph said,<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153How is Your Mother,<br \/>\nHow is Your Mother, Son?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>(With thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historicalchristian.com\/my_weblog\/2009\/04\/limbo-a-poem-for-easter.html\">Historical Christian<\/a>, who had it posted when I went looking for it.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Limbo by Sister Mary Ada The ancient greyness shifted Suddenly and thinned Like mist upon the moors Before a wind.
