4th Stanza

Posted By on September 11, 2009

Today I’d like to post the often forgotten fourth stanza of the Star Spangled Banner.

Oh thus be it ever

When free men shall stand

Between their loved homes

And the war’s desolation

Blessed with vict’ry and peace

May this heav’n rescued land

Praise the God that hath made

And preserved us a nation.

And conquer we must

If our cause, it is just.

And this be our motto:

In God is our trust.

And the Star-Spangled Banner

In triumph doth wave

O’er the land of the free

And the home of the brave.

God bless the brave.

  1. That’s the 4th verse??? I remember learning that in 6th grade. We only sang the first verse and that one. What a beautiful verse and a wonderful tribute.
